Setting the Date…

Published by cataly under Planning Edit This

I never realised things had to be arranged so far in advance…

For work and family reasons we have decided to get married in October this year, 2009.  Meaning there is a 10 month engagement…

Not having any clue about arranging a wedding I signed up for the “Send me more info” section on some local Bridal websites. I started getting emails and phone calls… I must admit most of the people I spoke to were lovely and more than willing to help. One Hair and Make-up woman commented on “you’re leaving things a little late aren’t you?” - when I asked what was meant by that she said that “these things are usually booked 12 to 18 months in advance” (gees… how much advance notice do you need for Hair and Makeup!)

The reception centres were starting to get booked though so it looks like we will need to get on top of that if we want one we really like…  But other than that initial enquiries seem to be going well. All I can recommend is if you are planning a wedding signing up to get information sent to you is SOOO much easier than doing all the leg work yourself! I highly recommend it (so long as you don’t mind the phone calls during the day).

Next weekend I am off to a Bridal expo to get even more information… and hopefully a lot of ideas!

The Proposal

Hi All! Welcome to my blog.

I have decided to join and share my experiences about getting engaged and planning a wedding.

I am not one of those girls that have thought about their dream wedding day from the age of five. In fact I hadn’t really put much thought into getting married at all (not that I didn’t ever want to get married, more that I didn’t think it was going to happen anytime soon).

Well in mid December I received a bit of a shock. My boyfriend cooked a nice roast then after dinner got down on one knee and proposed. It was completely unexpected and a real surprise. I definitely didn’t expect it! I didn’t even know he had a ring! It is gorgeous and fit perfectly! Laughing

So I said yes and after the elation and initial excitement of telling the family, then came the fear and uncertainty – not of the prospect of getting married, but at the planning of the wedding! It’s a big event and not really something you can slap together in a rush. Where to start? What to do? The Expense!!

So here we are at the beginning of my tale… I hope you join me along the way and add your comments or I can somehow be of help if you find yourself in the same position.
